Qigong for Health
(on-going class, 2X/wk, open to beginners & experienced participants)
Qigong is a system of ancient Chinese self-healing exercises that combines proper body alignment and slow, controlled movement that is coordinated with breath and mental focus. Qigong can be viewed as the “mother” of Ti Chi and is easier to learn and perform and even more relaxing to do. If Tai Chi feels too challenging, this is the class for you. Conditions for which there is promising research on the benefits of Qigong include arthritis, balance and range of motion limitations, cardio-respiratory illness, diabetes, chronic pain, compromised immune system, bone and breast health, and stress, anxiety, depression, and insomnia. This mind-body experience also increases energy, agility, and flexibility, loosens and strengthens joints and muscles, relaxes mind and body, reduces stress, improves concentration, and balances emotions. The exercises are free flowing, slow moving, relaxing and energizing in nature. It is appropriate for all physical conditions. It can be adapted for those restricted to a chair or wheelchair.
